Olmert and the attacks on Lebanon

The AP just reported that Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert will face criticism in a new report for his conduct during the invasion of Lebanon, which did little other than destroy many parts of Lebanon and kill many civilians.

Officials close to the investigation, confirming Israeli TV reports, said the report would be tough on both Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz.

Among the findings are that both men made hasty and ill-judged decisions at the outset of the war, and these errors were compounded by their lack of experience and unfamiliarity with defense issues, the officials said.

Of course, this will lead to increase in pressure for Olmert to step down. According to recent polls, only two percent of Israeli's trusted Olmert and two thirds wanted him to resign -- and this was before parts of this latest report were leaked.
